Question by : What breed is my cat?
This post is in response to the answers I received about my cat “Yue Ya”. I posted my question 4 days ago. I am posting better pictures so she can be seen more clearly. These are photos of her at about 7 months. Please copy and paste the following address to view her photos. http://www.flickr.com/photos/62008316@N04/
Just in the short time since these photos were taken her colors and markings have become more intense and beautiful.

Before undertaking a bathroom remodel, it is necessary to get a bathroom remodel quote. This will go a long way in helping you make a budget for your bathroom remodel project and will also aid you in deciding what part of the remodeling to stick with and which to ditch.

A bathroom remodel project can be a complex one particularly if you are redesigning the whole bathroom or doing some more complicated work that involves plumbing or electrical work. In such a case, it is most expedient for you to work with a bathroom remodel company.

Before you decide on a particular bathroom remodel company, you should scout around for reputable companies that have a history of delivering high quality professionally done work on time. When you have narrowed down a list of bathroom remodel companies, request a bathroom remodel quote from each. This should help you in your decision on what company to work with.
Getting bathroom remodel quotes from multiple bathroom remodeling firms is a straightforward affair and sometimes as simple as going to their websites on the internet and filling in your information.

The challenge arises when you have not yet decided what form your bathroom remodeling project should take.

If you plan to just make surface changes or light alterations, it would reflect as much in any quote you will get from a remodeling firm. That would also apply if you choose to make more complex changes such as resizing or a complete overhaul of the amenities in the bathroom.

Your bathroom remodel quote should feature your plans and design for the bathroom including light fixtures, tiling jobs and any other related change. Bear in mind that even though most bathroom remodeling firms are willing to consult with you in order to come up with a solution for your bathroom that would be satisfactory to you, you need to have  clear idea of what you want in your bathroom.

To aid you in this, browse home improvement sites on the internet as some come equipped with pictures to help guide you. Also go through current home improvement magazines to get ideas about trends and styles. Sometimes, something as simple as an added accent to your tiling job can change the look of your bathroom.

You also need to determine what you want to change completely and on what you just want a little enhancement work done. For instance you might decide to carry out a reglaze of your bath tub instead of replacing it with a brand new one.

Once you have a clear idea of the design you want in your bathroom and what changes you are willing to make to achieve that design, go ahead and request a bathroom remodel quote from the firms you have narrowed down. Be sure to compare prices and quality of material to be used before you make up your mind. Regardless of how much more affordable a particular firm is, research their reputation before you give them your job.

Peace Plantation ~ taking pictures of cats cats and more cats!

On the outskirts of the little town of Walton on the northwest edge of New York State’s Catskill Mountains is a serene refuge for hundreds of cats, kittens and a few dogs and farm animals. I won’t call these animals homeless because, though most are adoptable, those that aren’t adopted have a warm and safe home for life here! But hopefully many of them will find families of their own some day. They’re certainly hard to resist… walking through the spacious rooms and fenced in exercise yard, my husband John and I were rubbed against, gently pawed at and meowed to by dozens and dozens of beautiful cats :-) Peace Plantation is a nonprofit animal welfare organization with a central mission “to provide lifelong sanctuary and adoption services to homeless animals…”

Those are beautiful colorations and markings. I cannot recall ever seeing such an intense brown coloration before.

But it is simple to give a label, since she is not really a specific breed, but she had many different parents in her background. She is a DSH, brown tabby. She has tabby markings, and brown coloration. DSH means domestic short hair. You see the “M” on her forehead? That is the mark of a tabby. But then, the majority of all cats are tabby cats.

And, she can give just as much love as any purebred kitty.

She is a gorgeous domestic short hair. She looks a little like a foster kitten I have, but she’s off being spayed (eight weeks old)
I don’t now exactly what coloring she is, but maybe a classic tabby? I’m not very good at naming markings. My kitten is a classic tabby with orange splotches (torbie)
Good luck with your little domestic short hair kitten!

WOW . Thanks for posting these. Yue Ya is a stunning Silver Patched Classic Tabby (AKA Silver Classic Torbie) DSH.
This coat could easily be entirely random-bred Western moggy Look, here is a pedigreed American Shorthair with that pattern. http://www.alken-murray.com/Mishka.html and that’s an old breed that was developed by selectively breeding cats out of the domestic shorthair population in America.
there’s also some photos online of domestics with this pattern. i think the shorthair Silver Classic Torbie and White on this page is a dsh http://www.seregiontica.org/Colors/withwhite/withwhite.htm
One thing very cool about Yue Ya is how that red is such a deep colour.

You sounded pretty knowledgeable in your other question , so what’s going on genetically is at least one Agouti (A/?) , 2 of classic tabby (mc/mc) at least one Black (B /?) 1 Red & 1 “Not-Red” (O/o) and at least one Inhibitor gene ( I/? )

It’s not really possible to know if she might have some pedigreed ancestors. From what I recall she’s from a feral colony in an isolated rural area. so how likely is it that there even are any unaltered pedigreed cats in that area roaming around mating?
It’s hard to get a great look at her body in these photos. there’s only one showing her standing and it’s maybe not the best angle to see. But the things I said before about body type still apply.

From her looks, and what you said before about her friendly personality, I still think you should consider showing her as a Household Pet.

@ CMV Yes, there’s brown in the agouti too, I do see it on the ears etc., but remember in random bred cats you do see more “tarnishing” in the silver tabbies/ torbies — they are not being selectively bred to inhibit as MUCH of the colour.

I’m still definitely seeing the Inhibitor gene here I think some of those agouti areas are just TOO light for what you’d normally see in a regular brown torbie. Just look at IMG_0834a or 0780a. Brown (genetically black) Classic Torbie plus the I gene = Black Silver Classic Torbie, sometimes called for short just Silver Classic Torbie.

Anyway, it sounds like you are thinking of it too, but you said it may be “smoke” so we are talking about the same gene — but “Smoke” is only used to describe non- agouti cats. It is not called “smoke” with a tabby or torbie, it’s called “silver.” Black smoke + Agouti = (Black) Silver Tabby. the difference being that in the tabbies it’s only the agouti-banded hairs where the colour is inhibited, not the darkest part of the pattern.

Maybe some of the confusion was that I said it the short way without “Black” before the “Silver”. I guess since genetic black is the default, sometimes people leave it off and “silver” is understood to be “black silver” .
(But when the base colour is NOT black, it seems to be always specified, like Blue Silver Classic Torbie or Chocolate Silver Spotted Tabby )

  4. Café Mocha Valencia says:

No matter how many times you post about this cat it’ll STILL be domestic shorthair – no breed at all just like over 97% of the cats on this entire planet.

The correct term for her coat colour/pattern is Brown Classic Torbie. Brown Classic because she has Brown Classic Tabby markings and Torbie because she has splotches of Red from Tortie. Almost looks like you could add “Smoke” to that as well. If you run your hand against the lay of the fur – are the hairs white towards the roots?

Ariane – look at the cat’s ears and nose especially in that closer side shot – they’re BROWN not Silver (light gray).
