Is my cat blind? She has a weird eye!? {article}
Question by Kor1: Is my cat blind? She has a weird eye!?
Every time i take a picture of my cat, or when she looks at me when light is shining on her her left eye looks really weird. I think she might be blind. I did an image search on google, “blind cats” and got pics like this…

people like you are the reason why i come to this site and scroll though the questions for a good laugh
SHE IS NOT BLIND, this is normal with any cat, i have 5 and the light does the same thing to mine and they are waay far from being blind.
P.S. those are some adooorable babies
a vet will know.
if you want to try your self, bring your finger up the side of his face on the blind eye side, if he turns, he saw your finger.
cats eyes reflect in pics because of the membrane that lets them see so well at night. i would guess yours is just a photo thing, not blindness.
but i have never owned a blind cat.
If it only shows up in photos, I’d say the problem is the camera flash, not the cat’s eye…but you can test by getting in her peripheral vision and making a quick movement to see if she reacts.
Better yet, the vet can tell you at her next check up.
If you are using flash or the cat is looking into the light, it is just reflecting off of the cat’s eye. Relax.
lol, that the reflection of the camera off the retina in the eye. The cat is fine.
Its often shown as red on people – hence why people use a red eye reduction filter when they take photos.
her left or our left?
No your cat is not blind. Your cats tapetum lucidum is different in each eye (I’ve included a link which will give you lots of info). My cat Winston has a red left eye also, and its gotten a little more pronounced as he as gotten older. From what I can make out and from the vet has told me, it is nothing to worry about.
Well, it’d be best to have a vet visit it, but from personal experience, I lost a kitten to FIP a little over a year ago. It all started when his right eye went red, he saw an eye specialist who saw no damage in the eye & did blood work. After the blood work & symptoms were put together, we were told he had FIP, he passed a month after diagnosis. But, the worst part was, when we first took him to the vet, I always said his eye looked strange. Even in pictures, his right eye was a different color. I am in no way saying this to scare you, but I’m truthfully just telling you my camera caught the eye acting up before anyone noticed. Keep an eye on her. It may be far fetched to say she may have FIP, but it happens to cats under 2 & over 13. Please, be responsible & take her to the vet if anything else arises.
naw…my cats eye does that sometimes and hes not blind
but i suggest going to the vet.
