ok so we just got this cat yesterday from the humaine society. they said he was there because his old owners were moveing and could not take care of him. we luv him so much but now we have a question.
1. he sometimes just sits or lays in his litter box for a long time. he can get up and walk though and sometimes he lays on his real bed. could this be a sign of something bad??
2.he makes weird noises with his nose a lot. it sounds like he might be coughing or sneezing. it sounds kinda like when you blow air out of your nose really fast. also, is this another sign of somthing wrong??
3. if something is wrong with him, could my 7 yr. old cat or my dog catch his “disease”

hey good to hear the cat has a vet appointment because it sounds bad off. good thing you got him. unfortunately the vet may charge more than 75 bucks because it’s a new patient and you will most likely have RX’s and tests run. have you thought of seeing if your vet is a provider for Care Credit? the vet costs a lot but hey it is what us pet owners have to do for our animals. that is the lump we have to take when we agree to take in animals. but i promise you it’s so worth it & the cat will thank you! best wishes! get well to the cat!!

Urinary incontinence is the inability to control the release of urine from the bladder. The problem has varying degrees of severity. Incontinence is treatable and curable at all ages. If urinary incontinence is caused by a medical problem, incontinence disappears when the problem is.
This infection is more serious than the bladder infection that is treatable with antibiotics. On the other hand, it is easy to detect the reason for bladder infection, but interstitial cystitis is more difficult to treat. Symptoms of infection can be cured by small changes in lifestyle and medications.
Doctors have carried out several tests to detect the reason behind the chronic infection, but has not been possible reason found yet. Urinalysis of patients show no signs of bacterial infection or a virus, but still suffer from urinary disorders.
Some doctors say it is an autoimmune disease. In this case, the body’s immune system destroys the cells and tissues, which increases the inflammation of the bladder. This chronic cystitis is accompanied by symptoms such as asthma, endometriosis, migraine, sinusitis, hay fever, food allergies, etc.

I am 13 and I foster for the Humane society, I have a mother cat and her five babies about 2 1/2 or 3 weeks old in the laundry room. The laundry room is the way to the garage and everyone keeps going in there and leaving the door open for my pets to go in!
I am always having to make sure the door is closed my mom sometimes just opends the door for no reason to let the mom out and she says “I am your mom I can do whatever I want to do with this cat”. I am the one that takes care of her cleans the litter ect and I can’t even move them. My mom said the box stinks but she had worms at the time and now it doesn’t smell as bad at all but she still wont let me move them back to my room (no one ever goes in there). I can tell the mom is getting all stressed out. My mom said if I complain about it or move her She will take them back to humane society and I don’t want them getting put to sleep!
HELP!
P.S. I even pay for EVERYTHING!
P.P.S- My mom leaves the door open and then gets mad when she gets out. I tell her that the door needs to keep closed and she said well I can’t keep shutting it and I say I will move her out then she says if I do she will take them back!!!!! (whhhaaa?)

PLEASE HELP ME!!! I am beyond my wits end with these 2. I have 2 cats 1 I have had since she was a kitten, the other I saved from going to the rescue when my grandmother passed; they r sisters from the same litter and just turned 3 last month (they are strictly indoor cats). When I had just the 1 cat “pappi” she would do things like knocking things over,but I just figured it was typical cat exploration. Originally my only real problem with her was her getting on my counters but I was able to block her from my kitchen (problem solved, so I thought). When my grandmother passed, I took in her cat “smokii” out of the pity of the thought of her going to a shelter especially since she was a very chill cat (or so I thought). When I first brought smokii home I had to keep her isolated to my bedroom because pappi didn’t appreciate the company however she eventually came along and now she deals with her sister. Now my problems with smokii began in my bedroom; during the time she spent in my room she got into and onto everything breaking picture frames knocking everything over because she is easily twice pappi’s size and OMG she would shed on everything (but that isn’t her fault). Also, when she uses the box a lot of times she doesn’t cover it so if I’m out by the time I get home my house smells like a alley. I do clean the box frequently it just seems to be a habit of hers. Since they both get onto the counter I banned them both but occasionally smokii sets them free to reak havoc. Also, smokii gets into all of my cabinets. I’ve tried the water bottle which doesn’t work cuz they don’t mind the water they sit next to tub while the kids splash as well as the citrus scents; I’ve put double sided tape down which was more of a annoyance for me cuz either they don’t mind it or manuver around it. they have their own toys but I stopped buying them cuz they rather play with my stuff or trash. To make matters worse they rather sleep all day and terrorize whenever I sleep. Now my 2 biggest problems are that my poor pappi is now picking up a lot of bad habits and the only thing that seems to discipline them is my presence because only when they’ve been terrorizing they kind of hide (mostly smokii) when they hear/see me coming and its only me. Please help, I am really concerned for their safety most importantly because not only are they hanging around chemical and rodent poisons but once pappi mysteriously turned the knob to my gas stove and singed her wiskers. Oh yeah, another favorite is spilling the water from the bowl. Please please please help I don’t want to get rid of my grandmother’s cat but I feel like I’m out of options 
I do give them attention/affection but pappi is pretty anti social and only wants it on her time but smokii is a attention hog. Fyi: I’m on a tight budget so I can’t afford to buy tons of products to experiment with them either

I can answer some of your question anyway.
For the cabinets you can buy those plastic “child-proof” thingies they sell in any department or hardware store. Once you install those that problem should be over.
The water bowl problem is a common one. My solution was to replace the cats’ water dishes with a large heavy saucepan. They can’t tip it.
To prevent splashing you can put it on a cafeteria tray so water doesn’t run all over the floor.
The gas stove knob problem is a bit scary. I don’t know this but I am guessing they manufacture something to make the knobs harder to turn. You could check wherever they sell the things to stop toddlers from opening cabinet doors.

Available in the UK, not sure about else where. They do a range of products from vitamins to shampoos including Flea & Worming.
I use ‘Spot on’ for my dog (Anti Flea & Tick) and he’s never had any.
But I was searching to net earlier & there seems to be a lot of Bob Martin haters saying that their Flea products had killed their cats
I’m assuming that these people have read the warnings saying “Bob Martin Dog Spot must not be used on cats – it is extremely poisonous to cats.”
I was just wandering if anyone had heard anything bad about

I do not understand what domesticating cats has to do with keeping a cat as a pet or using them as a working cat? I was trying to find out about domestic cats (Felis Catus) and Native Americans and the Old West and no one was giving me a straight answer. I’m not asking about wild cats – bobcots, cougars, etc. – I know about those. All they basically say is “We did not domesticate cats.” They keep implying I meant before Europeans got to North America- that is not what I meant. Domestic cats didn’t get to North America until 1492. So between 1492 – 1800s Native Americans didn’t use any domestic cats as work cats or keep them as pets? They couldn’t have gotten domestic cats from other people during this time frame, either from American cowboys/pioneers/settlers or from European traders? I find that hard to believe.

The early Maine Coons would have run free in the dense forests of New England and Maine and remained long after the Vikings gave up living there. They did not give up their friendship with man however and it was later reported by early settlers in their journals that the local indians had packs of hunting cats. These cats soon moved onto the farms, hunting vermin in the barns which provided a comfortable and safe environment for them to raise their kittens.

The answer seems to obviously be “hissing is an inborn behavior” but I’m reminded of one of my parent’s cats, she never hissed for the first few years of her life. Now she hisses when she’s outside if I try to take her inside.

I adopted a half Siamese cat almost a year and a half ago. He’s always been vocal (as Siamese are) but it seems he’s gotten worse lately. A few months ago he began waking me up at 5 sometimes 6 o clock AM to feed him (his 1/2 can of wet food he gets a day.) Someone told me to feed him that at night to knock him out longer so I’ve begun to do that. Now he comes in and CRIES AND CRIES in the middle of the night. He’s not trying to play; he purrs and cries and lays across my face, does the paw thing. I’ve even tried to feed him the wet food AGAIN and after he’s done eating it he will come in and bother me! It’s really messing up my sleep schedule. I try to lock him out of my room, but he just whines and claws at the door. I live in a apartment so I’m terrified that the downstairs neighbors are hearing everything. Please help!
Some notes:
- he has a million toys to play with, he’s spoiled
- he also has a buddy (another kitty)
- he’s neutered
- like I said, I live in an apartment so I don’t really have another room to put him in
I will be honest, when I adopted him I had done no research on the Siamese breed. That is my fault entirely. He was a rescue cat and it never occurred to me to research. I didn’t know that Siamese were so different than other breeds! Any tips? Do the “behavior” sprays at the pet supply stores work? Can the vet do anything?

Well, by getting up you proved to him he could eat earlier, then play. You have to retrain him.
Next time he comes up grab him and pull him under the covers with you and don’t let him out until he’s really struggling. Sort of the Bugs Bunny “George’ sequence (I will hug him and pet him and call him George).
If the cat gets this reaction from you EVERY time he comes up in the middle of the night, and he doesn’t get fed till AFTER you brush your teeth, he’ll adjust to the new way and wait till you’re brushing your teeth to start screaming that he’s starving again.
You have to be 100% consistent or he’ll think if he pesters you enough then 1 time in 50 still gets him food and he won’t stop. They’re smart. This is the only way you’re going to get peace.

I got a Green Cheek Conure awhile ago. 3-4 years old. The last owners called him a “he” but they had never taken him to a vet or had him DNA sexed. I am thinking about having it done next week during our vet appointment but was told it was very expensive and you can see for yourself from certain behaviors.
“He” is very sweet, loves to cuddle but never touched (runs away if I try) I’ve noticed he often rubs his beak on things, including me. Loves to nuzzle my ear and neck, sometimes nibbling but never hard. Has never bit anyone but he is I’m assuming protective. The only time I ever see aggression is when my dog enters the room (my dog is used to birds and couldn’t care less if they are around). The bird will start screaming which to me sounds exactly like a car alarm and will start lunging at him if I touch my dog. Does the same when the bird is in his cage and sees me pet him.. may just not like dogs.
He also talks pretty well. Says “hello”, “love you”, “whatcha doin’” and meows like a cat. He says quite a bit more but hard to understand and usually in whispers.
Has no interest in toys and acts like he fears them.
If someone can tell me the differences between male and female conures behavioral wise, that would be helpful. I’m just really curious.
I was told my vet would charge $ 150 for the DNA testing. I figured that money would buy a lot of bird toys instead of fulfilling my curiousity. I’ll double check though.

Depending on your vet, a DNA test should be under $ 50. I wouldn’t call that “very expensive”, but it might be more than you want to spend to satisfy pointless curiosity.
Nuzzling, nibbling, etc. do not indicate either sex – that’s just normal affectionate conure behavior. The only even vaguely reliable behavioral indicators are directly sexual behavior, which you probably won’t see unless your bird is trying to mate with you (e.g., in lovebirds, 55% of males scratch their head before intercourse, but only 16% of females. 68% of females spread their wings, but only 27% of males. I don’t have any figures for gcc, but as you can see, it’s only a general guide anyway).
The behavior towards the dog does not mean it doesn’t like dogs per se; it’s probably jealous of your attention and sees the dog as a rival.

This is freaky -
My big white Maremma Sheepdog passed away Saturday in a field behind our house (he was thirteen).
The very same day, before I knew my dog was dead, I see this black cat. I’ve seen it twice now, and it prowls around our property from time to time. I’ve figured out that it lives in our humongous shed filled with boxes and tractors in the likes. One day, I go out there and see the cat lounging. It runs away from me as soon as I see it. I’ve fed it once before, and the food was completely gone, as if it knows to eat the food. It might be a stray – At this point I’m not sure.
People in my family seem to think I was meant to help this cat because it showed up on the same day my other dog died.
If you were me, would you feed it and try to keep it?
Don’t give me answers about, “Oh, it might have diseases,” or, “Oh, you should never feed a cat that might be wild.”

You need to figure out if it belongs to anyone first. You can take it to a vet to see if it has a microchip. If it does they can find out who it belongs to. If not you need to let people in your area know that you found a cat by putting up posters or anything. If you it turns out to just be a stray, I’d consider adopting it, but it does need to be taken to a vet and tested.

I have 5 cats, and 1 dog, I’ll start off with their info, and I guess I’ll show pictures aswell..
Instead of showing multiple pictures, I’ll show a collage..

I do have a lot of pets, but I do care for them.
Pepper:
11 years old, black and white, short haired, shes mean with all animals ( we got her front claws clipped so she can’t do any harm to the other animals), aggressive, but nice to people.
Sassy:
4 Years old, Siamese, shes the only one who gets along with out dog, she occasionally gets rough with playing, so were getting her declawed, not too good with humans, but gets along great with all animals.
Reese:
3 years old, tortoiseshell,short haired, gets scared at humans, doesn’t do good with dogs, she doesn’t attack though, if she did, we wouldn’t have got a dog, anyway she just runsaway and hisses, no attacking.
Oreo:
2 year old, white and black,short haired, we took him in 2 years ago, he was abandoned on a highway, without a collar, we cannot declaw him, as he is a “alley cat” and gets into fights with other cats a lot, so he needs his claws to fight ( we DO NOT make him fight, whatsoever, we also have a vet 2 minutes away from home)

1 year old, orange and white, short haired,She was abandon as well, we found her super skinny, under our house looking like she hasn’t been fed in months, so we took her in, she had to litters of kittens, she used to not get along with our cats, but she has made great progress, so gets along with all of our cats but reese and pepper, she’ll hiss and sometimes attack, we many get her declawed, she does go outside, but mostly stays in, we let her out when she pleases, she doesn’t get into fight with other cats so, were still debating on that.
Ginger: 3 months old, got her at 9 weeks old, loves all animals, was born with cats, dogs, horses and other barnyard animals, vary playful and loveable.
Now, my question is, how can I proceed to make them get along?
I know I cant make them get along, but they don’t need the stress, especially pepper. DO NOT say to get rid of MY pets, I take care of them.
They get well taken care of. Yeah, I hope, my aggressive cat used to love dogs… I don’t know what happened.

It makes me sick the way they do things in China. for this I boycotted the Olympics this year. Cats and dogs were collected and taken to death camps where they were killed in horrendous ways. The Chinese torture the animals before they are killed because the meat is said to taste better if they suffer before they die. It is sad and sickening.

I moved cities in February and over the last few months my little siamese girl (cat) has taken to ‘stomping’ down the studio apartments wooden stairs late at night!!! I’m concerned because its against the wall to my neighbor and he will surely hear it and i dont want to annoy him. It makes such a noise and wakes me every time, not even shouting at her works nor does ignoring it.
During the day she is a perfect lady and walks up and down softly like a cat normally does!?!
The thing is she is walking up and down aimlessly it seems. Also since i live in a studio there is no door on the bedroom as the stairs lead straight into the room with a balcony looking onto the lounge area

She is playing at night and chasing shadows. You will need to put her in your bedroom at night to prevent this.

First: I am sorry for using that as the headline to get your attention. My cat has been to several vets, nearly once a week for the last year. My vet has diagnosed the cat with “Inflammatory Bowel Disease” after much testing. My vet determined that the best course of action was to find a food that will work for his stomach. He’s been on Z/D and is on D/D.
Symptoms: Vomting, Blood in Vomit, Scratching.
NOTE: If my cat misses a meal, even if it is only a few hours late, he suddenly stops eating and rejects the food.
My concern at this point is his scratching, but I wanted you to have the whole picture. The vet “thought” it was a flea allergy, as it is common in cats. My cat is indoors only and is flea treated, yet he continues to scratch himself. I believe it is related to the same food allergy or intolerance that affects his stomach. I was able to use the cone to stop him, as he was only scratching his face and neck. Now, he is scratching other places as well. —- How can I stop him from scratching these areas?
I know that this is not a question for the average “Answerer” but I was hoping that someone out there had some kind of experience with this. I should mention that I am overseas with the military so my cat has been seeing a UK vet. Thank you in advance – I am truly desperate for answers.
He currently has wet and dry forms of D/D available to him. Today, he decided he is not going to eat. I should also add that his scratching is pretty rough. He has a patch of raw skin about 1.5 inches wide on his shoulder. I do treat it with a prescription scrub and ointment, but I am not sure how to dress a wound like this.

Try changeing his diet if he eats dry food feed him wet food and see where that goes and vise versa. Im just thinking im not really sure
